Joe Kapla Beautifully refined and mature sound in this debut EP. The duo’s mixed use of retro sci-fi soundtrack patches and acoustic drums/piano into each track creates a totally unique new genre and soundscape. This album offers unusually vivid and detailed imagery for all listeners.

That free fall at 4’39” in the title track, DesertX, sent chills down my spine. The smooth shading and synth layering work starting off ote / HARC is truly other-worldly. Lowlands leaves me on the edge of my seat! Favorite track: ote / HARC.

DesertX is a duo comprised of keyboardist-composer, Julie Sweet and drummer, Jason Knudson. As life partners and bandmates, the pair explore the passage of time and space through their mutual appreciation for repetition, subtle dynamics and jarring crescendos.
